FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS & POLICIES
Are YURNS a good fit for my loved one? Can I order custom or personalized pieces?
You’ll
know it the moment you see it. Our unconventional urns aren’t for
everyone. Our YURNS are for unique personalities whose memory doesn’t
resonate with a traditional urn on the shelf. YURNS offer an artistic
alternative in cremation vessels.
We can personalize your YURN by hand carving names, dates, or other personal aspects into the clay body prior to kiln-fire. If you have an idea for a special memorial, please share it with us…we do commissioned pieces and can hand sculpt a unique custom urn just for you.

What are YURNS made of?
Kiln-fired
clay, also known as ceramic, is a process that has been employed for
thousands of years. The word “ceramic” comes from the Greek word for
“pottery”. The earliest found ceramic object dates back over 27,000
years, and remnant pottery sherds allow archaeologists to date historic
sites, and determine resources and technologies used. The firing process
changes the physical properties of the clay body into a material that
is permanently hardened and durable throughout time.
How are YURNS made?
Each YURN is a work of art produced solely by MorzArt, the husband and wife team of Rob & Jamaica from Bastrop, TX. They are individually handcrafted through a slip-cast method which
produces the hollow vessel in which the cremains are placed. We use a
variety of materials to create the finishes of each product. We hand
paint each one individually using a possible variety of oxide washes,
acrylic paints, metallic waxes and finishing sealer.
Our hands-on approach produces artisan quality sculptures that will vary slightly from piece to piece. In other words, no two will ever be exactly alike, giving you an heirloom-quality, unique work of art.

Will my piece look like what is pictured?
Photographing
3-dimensional, metallic objects can be tricky and doesn't fully convey
the beauty of the piece as seen in person. Due to the handmade nature of
our YURNS, some color or form variation will occur. We try to provide
the best representative image of each YURN; however differences in color
settings of monitors/screens affect the actual color of pieces. The
size or form of the actual piece is shown in scale representations to
help reflect these elements.
What does cubic inch capacity equate to?
What
size do I need? Industry standard states that one cubic inch of volume
is needed per pound of the person’s total weight. So, if a person
weighed 150 lbs., and you would like to inurn the whole individual, you
will need an urn that is 150 cubic inches or larger. Smaller keepsake
sized urns are a good solution for those who wish to scatter or share
portions of the cremains. Various processing methods by service
providers can result in differing volumes for people of equal weight.
From a few personal experiences, cremains of an individual weighing 150
lbs. fit within a 115 cubic inch volume…so, there really is no steadfast
rule. If inurning all the cremains is important to you, please use the 1
to 1 ratio for peace of mind.
How do I inurn my loved one’s cremains into a YURN?
Each
YURN is produced with an adequate opening concealed on the backside or
bottom of the piece, and comes with accompanying closure hatch cut from
the ceramic body. It is recommended to inurn the cremains by keeping
them within the plastic bag provided by the crematory. In order to place
the bag within a YURN, it may be necessary to move the wire tie and tag
toward the top of the bag and distribute the material so that it may
fit through the opening. To permanently seal the vessel, simply affix a
bead of permanent adhesive (such as super glue or silicone adhesive) to
the edge of the closure hatch and set into place. If needed, most local
funeral homes will assist you in this process- you may need to make
arrangements ahead of time.
How do I place the YURN on a wall?
All
of our wall-mounted pieces are constructed with a high-temperature wire
hanger that is kiln-fired within the ceramic body. Use care when
selecting a wall location. It is recommended that you provide an
adequate sized (1-2”) screw driven into a wooden “stud” in the wall of
your home. If the desired location for the YURN is not convenient where a
stud falls, then use a drywall hanger. Home improvement stores have
drywall hangers with various weight ratings. We suggest using a minimum
20 lb. hanger. When utilizing the drywall hanger, carefully read the
instructions provided by the manufacturer. We are not responsible for
damage caused by failure to properly hang the vessel with the greatest
of care.
Can YURNS be shipped directly to a funeral home?
Yes,
if pre-arrangements are made with your funeral professional, simply
provide us with the name and shipment address of the funeral home. In
the Notes section during checkout, please provide us with your loved
one’s name so that the funeral home may process the request accordingly.
Are there any special precautions?
Although
the ceramic material would weather the elements in an outdoor
environment, direct exposure to the finish would likely show signs of
wear over time. If placing a YURN outdoors, it is recommended that you
shelter it from direct sun and precipitation.
Dust regularly, and if necessary, use a mild soap solution.

What if I can’t afford the retail price? Are there prices for funeral professionals?
It
is our honor to be of service to anyone who wishes to have a YURN
memorial for their loved one. We have experienced and understand hard
times during loss. We are open to payment arrangements to those in
need…please, just ask.
