FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Our custom YURNS are hand-sculpted memorials that reflect movement, emotion, and individuality through organic, soulful design. We focus on human-centered tributes inspired by nature, music, and meaningful symbols—avoiding industrial or licensed character themes to preserve artistic integrity. While we deeply value the bond with pets, our custom work is dedicated to honoring human lives and stories.
Each YURN is handcrafted in our Texas studio using time-honored ceramic techniques. See our How It's Made page for more details.
For our Made-to-Order pieces, we sculpt originals, create custom plaster molds, and "slip-cast" them in clay, refining each by hand before kiln firing. These pieces are for sale online directly in our shop, and are "what you see, is what you get" (aside from your personalized text and color choices).
Our Custom Commissioned pieces are sculpted entirely freehand, making them truly one-of-a-kind. See our Custom Commissions page for gallery of our work, examples of our style, preferred subjects and quality of work.
YURNS are ceramic works of art—a craft thousands of years old. Kiln firing transforms clay into a durable vessel that endures across time. Finishes are applied by hand using oxide washes, acrylic/enamel paints, metallic waxes, and sealers, giving each piece its own unique character and heirloom quality.
Because YURNS are all handmade, slight variations in color and form are natural. While we provide the best representation in photos, monitor settings and the challenge of photographing three-dimensional, metallic-like objects mean your YURN may look even more beautiful in person.
Most urns are sized using an old industry rule: “one cubic inch of space per one pound of body weight.” This guideline dates back decades, when the average American adult was smaller and body weight loosely tracked skeletal size.
The truth is, cremains are bone fragments, not body weight. Fat, fluid, and muscle don’t remain after cremation.
What determines volume is mostly:
Height and frame (skeletal size)
Age (bone density changes over time)
Crematory process (fineness of processing can shift volume)
Because of this, weight alone isn’t a reliable measure. Two people who weigh the same can leave very different amounts of cremains depending on their height, build, and age.
What does that mean for you?
We’ve studied real-world cases and found that our urns comfortably hold the cremains of most adults. For example, our guitar urn (130 cubic inches) has been used by many families without issue. In the rare case that a loved one was very tall or had a particularly dense frame, families sometimes decide to scatter a portion separately, or choose a keepsake urn or other memorial products that can use the ashes in unique ways.
Each YURN is crafted with a concealed opening on the backside or bottom of the piece and includes a matching ceramic closure hatch, hand-cut from the body of the urn. If assistance is needed, most local funeral homes are willing to help with the inurning process—please contact them in advance to make arrangements.
FILLING THE URN
To protect the finish during inurnment, place the urn on a padded towel or soft surface. We recommend keeping the cremated remains in a plastic bag —preferably a secondary, pliable bag for ease of inurnment. Work the empty bag gently into the corners, so that the ashes may settle into the deeper areas of the vessel. A funnel may assist in guiding the ashes into the vessel. You may also use additional smaller bags to fill odd or recessed areas within the sculpture. As you fill, gently shift or shimmy the urn to help the ashes settle and distribute evenly. Ensure that the contents remain below the edge of the opening—DO NOT OVERFILL. Forcing the bag or closure could result in damage. Use the identification tag provided by your funeral provider to securely tie the bag, if applicable.
SEALING THE URN
To seal the urn permanently, apply a bead of permanent adhesive—such as gel-style super glue or silicone adhesive—around the edge of the ceramic closure hatch. Gently press the hatch into place and hold briefly until secure.
MOUNTING THE URN
All wall-mounted YURNS are constructed with a high-temperature wire hanger, kiln-fired and fused into the ceramic body. Each hanging system is tested to support up to 20 pounds of downward force. When selecting a location, use care and caution. Install a 1.5" (or larger) screw directly into a wooden wall stud to ensure proper support. It is essential to drive the screw well into a wooden wall stud for it to hold the weight of the urn when filled. If a stu
d is not available at your desired location, use a heavy-duty drywall hook (“monkey hook”).
MADE-TO-ORDER PIECES
Each YURN is a handmade work of art, created just for you. Because of the care and craftsmanship involved, creation of our Made-to-Order pieces (with engraving) typically takes 4–10 weeks, depending on our schedule. Free ground shipping is included and generally takes 2–4 days within the U.S.
For families needing something sooner, we offer Rush production for an additional fee, with completion in 10–14 days (sometimes sooner), with additional expedited shipping options available. Please contact us so we can find the best solution for your needs.
For more details see: RUSH PRODUCTION
CUSTOM COMMISSIONED PIECES
Custom pieces require more time due to their unique design process, and our waitlist for commissioned work is typically 4–6 months. This allows us to work closely with you to create a meaningful, one-of-a-kind memorial that truly reflects your loved one’s spirit.
For more details see: ORDER SCHEDULING & PRIORITY
We can ship directly to your address or to a funeral home you designate, ensuring your YURN arrives where it’s needed most.
We’ll always provide an estimated delivery date and keep you informed along the way. While we strive to meet these timelines, shipping depends on carriers and cannot be guaranteed.
International Orders - Outside USA: Shipments are sent via USPS to the country of receipt. Duties, taxes, and customs fees are the customer’s responsibility. The receiver must settle all charges for customs to release the shipment.
Due to the highly personalized nature of our work, custom and engraved YURNS are non-refundable. We take great care in crafting each piece and stand behind the quality of our work. If your order arrives damaged or defective, please contact us within 3 days of delivery, and we will work with you to resolve the issue.
If you need to cancel an order, please request cancellation within 24 hours of purchase. We truly value your trust and will do our best to ensure your experience with MorzArt is a positive one.
Please handle with care. We are not responsible for damage caused by improper filling or hanging the memorial with the greatest of care.
Dust regularly and clean gently with mild soap and water.
While the ceramic body can withstand outdoor environments, prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or precipitation may cause visible wear to the finish. If displaying your YURN outdoors, we recommend placing it in a sheltered area to protect it from the elements.
It is truly our honor to help families create a YURN memorial for their loved one. We understand that grief can come with unexpected challenges, including financial ones. Your loved one’s memory matters, and we want to make this meaningful tribute possible. If the retail price is difficult for you, we are happy to work with you on payment arrangements. Please don’t hesitate to reach out—we’ll do our best to find a solution that works for your family.
